Owain Kelly is a Welsh composer, musician and audio-visual artist based in Manchester, UK.
His electronic audio-visual outfit NO CEREMONY/// released their self-titled debut album in 2013 to extensive critical acclaim. Twice becoming the most blogged-about artist in the world and championed by the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Zane Lowe and Huw Stevens, they toured internationally with artists such as Foals, Crystal Fighters and New Build, supported Pixies at their 2013 iTunes Festival Headline slot in London's Roundhouse and won LA Times' Best Newcomer award at SXSW 2013.
His introduction to media composition was the feature-length score for Cuban psychological horror '¿Eres Tú, Papá?' ('Is That You?'), which went on to win multiple festival awards including Best Promising Director at Sitges and Jury's Choice at BIFAN. He has since worked on various film, tv and theatre projects supported by BAFTA, BFI, Arts Council, Sky Arts and BBC New Creatives, and his work on Icelandic Folk Horror 'Krampuss' ('Þið kannist við') - broadcast Primetime Christmas Day on RÚV Iceland - earned him a 'Best Composer' nomination at HorrOrigins Festival.
His music has been heard in British film 'Quartet', MTV's 'The Hills', 'Made In Chelsea' and 'Catfish', as well as in advertising campaigns for Samsung, L’Oréal and the Irish Tourism Board. He has collaborated with artists Joey Santiago (Pixies), Mike Joyce (The Smiths) and James Vincent McMorrow, and has been commissioned to remix acts such as John Grant, alt-j and The 1975.
Alongside his composition work, Owain is currently developing a musically-driven theatre production entitled 'Blessed, Tryna Shake This Curse' with collaborator Simon Manyonda (Rye Lane, Eric, Pennyworth) and a multidisciplinary arts project entitled 'GULFF' that explores the auditory byproducts of late capitalism — robocalls, hold music, 24-hour rolling news reports, social media artefacts, advertising jingles — with NYC-based visual artist and musician Tod Lippy (Esopus, My Fellow Americans).
